Why Wellspring?

As a community of believers, we have all had a dynamic and life-changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ at some point in our lives. We all have a history and a life story to tell; and we do not pretend to be perfect or to be anything that we are not, except to say that we are a community of real people who have been saved by grace who are intent upon pursuing a journey faith in the Lord Jesus as He leads and guides us through the stresses and trials of this life.

Our name; ‘Wellspring Community Church’ comes on the back of the idea that Wells in ancient times and especially in the middle east, were a focal point for the community as they came together to draw an essential life-sustaining commodity. Hence Wellspring essentially represents a slight play on words and finds its biblical foundation in a number of passages which are spread throughout the Old and New Testaments. Space does not allow for a full explanation of these passages here, but their essence alludes to the dynamic of the Holy Spirit as an essential and life-giving source to the Christian believer and humanity as a whole, through the life and ministry of Jesus. As such for us, the passages of Numbers 21:17-18; Isaiah 41:17-20; Ezekiel 47:1-12; Proverbs 4:23; John 4:13-26, 7:27-39 and Luke 4:18-19 among others for example hold great significance.

We still believe that the Well is an essential and spiritual meeting place for the whole community, but where once it was a place to throw in the Bucket, it is now a place where we can come to Jesus for forgiveness, freedom, refreshment and the restoration we need as we journey in a broken, cruel and divided world. Why not come and join us on this journey of faith and discovery as together, we explore this amazing life and our amazing Saviour?
